Week One: Final Evening
Durty Nelly's Pub, Bunratty, County Clare, Republic of Ireland
On the final day of our first week we overnighted in Bunratty.
Before we left Regina, good friends Rosaleen & Michael Quinn said that if we were in the area, we should go to “Durty Nelly's Pub”. How wonderful was it that it was just across the road from our hotel!
Established in 1620, "Durty Nelly's" is one of Ireland's landmark pubs and is steeped in legend. I shall not try and duplicate the story here – you can research it on your own. However, no doubt her famous “hospitality” to the (male) travellers coming across the bridge where she had a toll booth played a part in her obtaining her nickname.
It was fun to have supper and a drink. Sharon's choice of poison was an Irish coffee, mine a pint of ale. The fish and chips were fabulous too.

Bunratty Castle
When we got into Bunratty there was no time to visit the very imposing and alluring “Bunratty Castle”. However, we weren't leaving town the next day until mid morning and - since our hotel was right next door – we had an opportunity to explore it on the morning of our second week. Stay tuned.... |
