Reflections on Dublin
Reflections on Dublin
Dublin is not a city that 'smacks you over' with its grandeur and magnificence. Still, it is a city that by the end of my visit I can claim to have fallen in love with.
What makes it so worthy? Well, it is a sum of all its varied parts: its many interesting attractions, its public statues and public art, its history, its lovely Liffey River, the human scale of its buildings. But most of all it was its people – so friendly and helpful.
Will I ever return?
I can only hope so – we crammed so much into the short time we were there that, quite simply, we exhausted ourselves on a daily basis. A return is necessary to see some of the attractions I missed – in particular, the army barracks, the art galleries, the decorative arts museums, the Glasnevin Cemetary among others. As well I must try and experience Dublin at greater leisure – i.e. take a bit more time to socialize in its many pubs and restaurants.
Yes, a Dublin pub crawl would definitely be on my list for any future visit.
Until then... one can dream.
Irish Blessing
May St. Patrick guard you wherever you go,
and guide you in whatever you do--
and may his loving protection be a blessing to you always
