Malahide
Malahide
Our tour began in Malahide, a nearby seaside town on the Broadmeadow estuary off the coast of the Irish sea.
How wonderful, yes?
Answer: Yes...
but first...
but first...
but first...
we had to get there...
Travel memory: Our wonderful friends Michael & Rosaleen Quinn had told us that getting to Malahide from our hotel – Jury's Inn Custom House would be very easy and very cheap. We were, you see, only a block or so away from the “Dart” - Dublin Area Rapid Transit - which connects Dublin to Malahide. And so it proved to be. That is, however, had we thought to ask a few more questions at the time we bought the ticket.
Yes, you guessed it – our short 1/2 hour train ride trip did not end up being a 1/2 hour. Not to make a long story, over long – suffice it to say we did not change trains at the one junction point there was on our trip.
Oh so sad.
However, in our defence, the man who gave us the ticket did not volunteer this information.
In our defence, there was no announcement of any kind at the junction point.
In our defence, the timetable Sharon had gotten from the hotel desk had indicated “0 changes”.
Ah well. Live and learn. And certainly it was not a big worry. We simply had to go to the other side of the tracks (while hauling all our luggage, up and down station overpass stairs!), catch the next train going in the opposite direction, go back to the junction point and catch the right train.
This we did with a little help by one very, very kind Irish man who not only gave us directions to the correct platform, but actually escorted us to it.
The world is full of lovely people.
